I've been using GCash Tap-to-Pay for over a week now since I figured that they enabled it weeks ago.

I've actually replaced almost all in-person card uses with it because of the simple part that GCash is the only app that actually does this AND has a working transaction log and push notification. I go to an establishment, say it's a card, I boop my phone to the terminal and I get a beep on my phone with the transaction details in a notification. Perfect.

This small thing of having a reliable transaction log and notification is all I wanted from the other payment providers. Maya kind of did it before with SMS notifs and a somewhat-okay transaction log, but they're still not great with it since you can't export their logs. And of course, no one's doing contactless yet besides GCash.

Yes, I actually like notifications even if I literally just did the action to pay, because you know, I want confirmation that it worked and is charged properly on my account!

Any other bank or payment provider is a variety of worse results — either they don't have a proper log at all and you have to wait for a billing statement, or you need to be on a PC. Or they have it, but it's a hassle to use on a phone.

(BPI, I'm looking at you and your crap billing statements, for being only available at certain hours and is more forgetful of past records than an amnesiac.)

User experience, people. That's all it takes for people to use your services.

Someday, I might even consider going outside without a wallet, because I can rely on my phone to do it all.

The only pain point I have now with GCash is the annoying full-screen advert and occasional tutorial onboarding they nag you with that distracts me from the flow.

Is this a credit card replacement?

Of course not. It's just an additional way to pay. With that said, this actually does simulate a physical credit card when you use it, even if GCash itself is technically a virtual debit account.

If your objective is to keep payments running on your CC of choice, then yeah, keep using physical credit cards as usual.
